Our ultimate goal of the AEM program is to conserve and protect the natural resources of Fulton County and in the process help farmers make cost-effective, science-based decisions to keep their operation current while meeting business objectives.

Farmers work with local AEM resource professionals to develop comprehensive farm plans using a tiered process:

  • Tier 1 – Inventory current activities, future plans and potential environmental concerns.

  • Tier 2 – Document current land stewardship; assess and prioritize areas of concern.

  • Tier 3 – Develop conservation plans addressing concerns and opportunities tailored to farm goals.

  • Tier 4 – Implement plans utilizing available financial, educational and technical assistance.

  • Tier 5 – Evaluate to ensure the protection of the environment and farm viability

The AEM program is voluntary, which means a successful program hinges on participation and more importantly public interest. This program can accomplish many things including identifying, prioritizing, and mitigating critical natural resource concerns around the farmstead, or on cropland. Many producers in the county have participated in the program and have received funding. By working with the Fulton County SWCD staff and participating in the AEM program there is opportunity to implement practices to mitigate agricultural pollution.
